The North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), which had extended UPI transaction facility to passengers in buses operated by 50 depots, has now registered over 1 crore UPI transactions.
According to a press release issued by Managing Director of NWKRTC Priyanga M., the UPI transaction facility for passengers to purchase bus tickets was started by the corporation on September 1, 2023. “Now, as on March 20, 2025, NWKRTC has registered 1.06 crore UPI transactions through which it has collected ₹104.68 crore,” she said.
Apart from this, NWKRTC has also started revenue collections of various departments in the corporation through UPI transactions from August 2024 and the collections till February 2025 is ₹11.98 crore through 43,719 transactions.
Extra buses
On account of Ramzan and Ugadi festival, NWKRTC has decided to operate 137 additional bus services between March 28 and March 31, to benefit passengers travelling from Bengaluru to their native places in North Karnataka.
In a release, NWKRC said that Hubballi, Gadag, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Chikkodi and Bagalkot divisions of NWKRTC would operate additional buses on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (March 28-30).
