The Ernakulam unit of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested a woman office assistant at the Ernakulam Sub-Registrar Office on charge of bribery on Monday (March 3, 2025).

Sreeja was reportedly nabbed after the VACB laid a ‘trap’ and allegedly caught her red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,750. This was reportedly the second time she had accepted a bribe, having previously collected a similar amount from the complainant, who had come to the office for property registration.

On a previous occasion, the accused had demanded a larger bribe, including a share for her seniors, citing that the property worth ₹55 lakh being registered warranted a hefty payoff. The complainant was asked to make the payment while collecting the registration documents. Following this, the complainant alerted the VACB, leading to the accused being trapped.

“We are trying to verify whether other officials in the office were involved,” VACB sources said.
