
The car that rammed the tractor near Ambur on Wednesday
A 41-year-old leather businessman was killed while three others were injured in a road accident after the car he was traveling in hit a tractor on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) at Sandakuppam village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased was identified as S. Mohammed Yakub, a native of Salem. Initial inquiry revealed that along with his brother S. Mohammed Yusuf, 42, Yakub was driving to Ambur from Salem on a business trip when he suddenly noticed a tractor that was crossing the stretch from the service lane. Despite Yakub applying brakes, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the tractor. In the impact, two brothers and two pedestrians, namely S. Reshma, 30, and her toddler Rehyan, 2, were injured in the accident, which happened around 11 a.m.
Immediately, other motorists and passerby rescued injured persons. They also alerted Ambur Town police, who rushed to the spot. Police shifted injured persons to Government Taluk Hospital in Ambur where doctors declared that Yakub was dead on arrival. A case was registered. Special teams have been formed to nab the driver of the tractor. A probe is underway.
