The Karnataka Cabinet on Wednesday decided to deposit Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) certificates worth ₹3,400 crore with the Supreme Court towards 15 acres and 39 guntas of Bangalore Palace Grounds acquired for road-widening projects.
According to sources, the Cabinet has decided to request the Supreme Court to keep the TDR certificates with it for now and take a call on whether to pay this to the erstwhile Mysore royal family, based on the outcome of the petition filed before it over ownership of Bengaluru Palace Grounds.
It may be noted that the apex court had asked the State government last week to deposit with it TDR certificates worth over ₹3,400 crore within 10 days.
It is also learnt that the Cabinet discussed taking up a legal fight with respect to the TDR issue and there was a suggestion to form a TDR committee to look into the issue.
The Bangalore Palace (Utilisation and Regulation of Land) Bill was tabled in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The Bill replaces an Ordinance that was passed earlier to reserve the right to either acquire or not acquire the Bengaluru Palace Grounds land for the widening of the traffic-choked Ballari Road and Jayamahal Road.
