Parents of newborn girls felicitated as part of a campaign to celebrate birth of girl children in Telangana’s Khammam district

As part of a novel campaign to espouse the cause of girl child and gender equality, the district officials felicitated as many as 21 couples, those recently blessed with baby girls, in various parts of Khammam district on Thursday (April 3, 2025).

The weekly campaign christened “Maa Paapa Maa Inti Manideepam” was launched by Collector Muzammil Khan a week ago. It is aimed at celebrating the birth of girl children under the banner “Adapilla Janmotsava Vedukalu” by felicitating the parents and the grandparents of newborn girls.

The campaign is being implemented by the Women Development and Child Welfare Department. Mandal level teams led by special officers have been constituted to implement the weekly campaign with a thrust on rural and far flung areas in the district.

As part of the campaign, the Collector visited Kotha Lingala village in Kamepally mandal on Thursday and felicitated Amrutha and Sudhakar, the proud parents of a baby girl, and handed over sweets and a certificate congratulating them on the birth of their baby girl.

The congratulatory message reads: “Congratulations! On the arrival of Mahalakshmi at your home! It is our responsibility to educate and encourage girl children to excel in all fields.”
