A tense face-off between the Treasury and Opposition benches awaits Parliament on Wednesday (April 2, 2025) as the Lok Sabha is all set to take up the Waqf (Amendment) Bill for discussion and passage.

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) parties held a meeting of all floor leaders on Tuesday (April 1, 2025), to evolve a joint strategy on the contentious Bill. The BJP, the Congress and their allies have all issued whips to their respective MPs to be present in Parliament during the debate on the Bill.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Lok Sabha’s business advisory committee (BAC), which includes leaders from all major parties, chaired by Speaker Om Birla agreed on an eight-hour debate, which could be extended after taking the sense of the House.
The Rajya Sabha will discuss the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on March 27, 2025.
