Officers of the district administration are holding peace committee meetings in various towns and villages to ensure smooth celebrations of Holi that falls in the month of Ramzan.

Officers are inviting members of various Hindu and Muslim organisations and are requesting them to celebrate the festivals in a harmonious manner.

In Hukkeri on Tuesday, Circle Inspector Mahantesh Basapure urged members of various communities to follow the various rules and court judgments related to public order.

He instructed those celebrating Holi not to throw colour on anyone without consent. “There may be children going to schools or examination halls. There may be women going to festivals or family functions or people of other faiths who may not share your beliefs. Please see that they do not suffer inconvenience,” he said.

He said that government rules have restricted the celebrations to daylight hours while permitting the use of only ecologically sustainable colours. Some of these have been framed following court rulings. They need to be followed strictly, he said.

Similar meetings have been held in various other towns and villages.
