Police to crackdown on betting

Nandyal police have formed special teams to crackdown on cricket betting gangs which are likely to get active in view of the commencement of Indian Premier League (IPL).

Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana said the special teams had intensified vigil and would conduct searches as part of curbing cricket betting. “We will take stringent action against those who take advantage of the weakness of the people and encourage them to place bets promising easy money,” the SP said.

Those who organise betting and those who encourage others to indulge in the betting activity will be dealt with severely and suspect sheets would be opened against them. The SP said vigil is kept on those who were earlier involved in betting and action will be taken against both online and offline betting.

Mr. Adhiraj Singh Rana also appealed to the parents to keep a tab on the activities of their children and keep them away from betting. He also asked he general public to inform about any betting activity to the police through Dial 100 or 112. The SP said the identity of the informants would be kept a secret.

High returns promised

Kurnool district Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel said the betting organisers and gangs target youth luring them with high returns. Mr. Vikrant Patel said several people have been incurring huge debts by investing in cricket betting Apps and are even resorting to end their lives unable to come out of the debt trap.

The SP said the organisers of online betting are luring people with attractive advertisements by social media influencers and asked people not to get lured with the promise of getting easy money.
