Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday distributed the keys of 29 houses at Wandoor in Malappuram. The houses were built under the ‘Kaithangu’ project initiated by Rahul Gandhi when he was the Wayanad MP.
The Kaithangu project is aimed at providing housing to those who lost their houses in the floods of 2018 and 2019 but could not benefit from any government schemes. A total of 84 houses have been built under the project initiated by the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Ms. Gandhi also handed over seven scooters to differently abled people as well as a vehicle for the community health centre at Kalikavu, under Rahul Gandhi’s MPLADS fund. Wandoor MLA A.P. Anil Kumar presided over the function.
Earlier, at an event held at Kalpetta, Ms. Gandhi distributed scholarships to 134 students who had survived the landslides at Mundakkai and Chooralmala. The scholarships were provided under the ‘Uyirp’ scheme initiated by Kalpetta MLA T. Siddique.
“There are several students who survived the landslides but lost their families. They were more or less left on their own. Mr. Siddique established a dedicated office to see to their needs under his MLA Cares project and even negotiated with colleges over fee waiver,” Ms. Gandhi said. As many as 121 students from Mundakkai and Chooralmala are studying in various universities.
Ms. Gandhi attended the District-Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the collectorate at Kalpetta earlier in the day.
