The Gouribidanur police on Monday arrested a 21-year-old PU dropout, who posing as a Lokayukta officer blackmailed a Chickballapur City Municipal Council official for money after threatening raids against him.

Based on the complaint filed in May 2024, the police tracked down the accused identified as Channakeshava Reddy from Satya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh, after 10 months and arrested him. The police are now on the lookout for his associate Dhanush Reddy, who was helping him and is presently on the run.

According to the police, the accused is a habitual offender who was involved in similar offences in Mangaluru last year. The accused would call government officials on WhatsApp and threaten them with corruption cases. The accused later demanded money in return for dropping the charges and closing the case.
