More individuals and organisations have echoed one other’s opinion of requesting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to either put an end to the Iftar or divert the funds earmarked for this purpose towards encouraging education.
The Students’ Islamic Organisation, the student wing of the Jamat-e-Islami Hind, too suggested that the funds be put to better use. The organisation had recently analysed and released its report on the government spending on education. They had rued that thousands of students were yet to receive scholarships in the form of reimbursement of tuition fee.
“Despite repeated appeals for substantial support in crucial areas such as scholarships, the Minority Sub-Plan, employment opportunities, and economic empowerment, these pressing issues continue to be ignored. Instead of investing in sustainable welfare programmes, the government has chosen to spend an enormous amount on an Iftar event, appearing more as a political spectacle than a genuine effort for community upliftment,” the organisation stated. They also sought to know whether the government was sincere in its efforts for welfare of minorities.
Meanwhile, former minority commission chairperson Abid Rasool Khan too endorsed the view of other activists and NGOs, seeking an end to what he described was a lavish expenditure. “I humbly request your good self to put a stop to such extravagant wasteful expenses of public funds and instead divert the amount for a cause to improve the lot of Muslims,” he wrote in a representation to the Chief Minister, which he later shared with the media.
