Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds, brought some much-needed relief to citizens from the sweltering heat in the city. However, the showers also led to incidents of fallen trees and branches, along with waterlogging in some areas, disrupting traffic movement.

The sky remained overcast since the afternoon, signaling the possibility of rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rainfall over the weekend. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum of 22°C. Light showers are expected to continue on Sunday as well.

According to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room, incidents of fallen trees were reported in Sanjay Nagar, Doddabommasandra, and Banashankari. The control room coordinated with the civic body’s forest cell to clear the fallen branches. Traffic movement in these areas was affected.

Water entered multiple houses at Amruthahalli due to drainage overflow. The residents were seen struggling to clear water. The areas have been prone to flooding even during moderate rainfall.

In Jeevan Bima Nagar Road in east Bengaluru, a scooter was damaged when a branch fell on it. A motorist, identified as Mani, had parked the vehicle near the bus shelter to take cover from rain. While he was waiting for the rain to stop, the branch fell on his vehicle.

Meanwhile, water stagnation was reported near a house in Mattur Layout, Yelahanka, due to drainage overflow caused by a faulty underground system. BBMP officials dispatched a team to resolve the issue.

Traffic movement towards Whitefield, Mahadevapura, and K.R. Puram slowed down due to waterlogging near the MMT bus stop on the route from Kasturi Nagar to MMT Junction (K.R. Puram). The traffic police were seen grappling to bring normalcy to the stretch. Due to heavy water logging at Hunasamaranahalli, severe traffic congestion affected the traffic towards the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

As per IMD sources, areas such as Yelahanka, R.T. Nagar, Kammanahalli, and Shakaranagara, along with other parts of North Bengaluru, received significant rainfall.
