Amid much drama, Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman on Friday night (February 28, 2025) appeared before the investigation officer in Chennai for inquiry in connection with a complaint lodged by an yesteryear actor accusing him of rape. Valasaravakkam Police began investigation afresh in the case after the Madras High Court had dismissed a petition filed by Mr. Seeman, in 2023 to quash the rape case registered against him by the police years ago, on a complaint from the actor, who had acted in one of his movies he directed. Originally, the FIR was registered in 2011 and the court had directed the police to complete the investigation within 12 weeks.

In the case, a judicial magistrate had already recorded the statement of the complainant under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

After the High Court dismissed his quash plea, the Valasaravakkam Police served summons asking him to appear before the investigation officer for inquiry on Thursday (February 27, 2025).

However, on Thursday (February 27, 2025), his lawyers appeared on behalf of him seeking more time. The police then pasted summons on the gate of his house in Neelangarai. Since the summons was torn by an aide, police arrested a security guard and an aide from Mr. Seeman’s house besides seizing a pistol from the guard.

On Friday evening (February 28, 2025), Mr. Seeman reached Chennai and proceeded to the police station. Many supporters gathered in front of the police station and shouted slogans raising objection to the police action against their leader.

Tension prevailed as the police prevented them from breaking the cordon. Many wanted to accompany him into the station and police had a tough time regulating the crowd of supporters. Lawyers also accompanied him.
