In a major operation, the Ernakulam Rural police arrested six persons, including two women, for allegedly possessing 4 kg of ganja and 855 grams of heroin oil in two separate incidents.

The seizures were as part of the ongoing ‘Operation Clean’ campaign of the Rural police.

The Aluva police initially nabbed Mamata Digil, 28, of Odisha, allegedly with 4 kg of ganja from near Pump Junction in Aluva on Tuesday night. The remaining five — Siva Gowda, 29, Kuldar Rana, 55, and wife Moina Rana, 35, Santhosh Kumar, 32, and Rambabu Soona, 32, all from Odisha – were nabbed from near the railway station allegedly with heroin hidden in their bags in the early hours of Wednesday (March 5, 2025).

The ganja smuggled in from Odisha was allegedly being sold here for ₹25,000 a kg. Shortly after the sale, the accused used to return to Odisha.

The operation that led to the seizure of the heroin oil was conducted in coordination with the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force. The smugglers had come as a family to avoid suspicion. Siva Gowda was reportedly the leader of the gang. The heroin was valued at around ₹25 lakh a kg, said the police.
