The Nandyal district police have arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in online betting on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The police seized ₹4.10 lakh cash and seven mobile phones from the arrested persons.
According to the police, the Koilkuntla police have conducted a raid on specific information about some individuals placing bets on the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals match played on Saturday.
A police team comprising Koilkuntla circle inspector P. Hanumantha Naik conducted the raid and arrested six persons in an open area beside Bhargav Lodge on the road leading to Gandhi Nagar in the town.
Police caught the main organiser Vadde Rafi and five others Obulapu Raja Reddy, Male Suresh Babu, Surasura Vinod Kumar, Jattangi Sunil Raju, and Chakali Maddileti, all residents of various localities in Koilkuntla town.
Cases have been registered against the six persons under the newly introduced Organised crime sections of BNS Act and Gaming Act.
“The investigation revealed that the accused were transferring money through mobile Apps. Letters are being sent to banks to seize their accounts and trace the accounts to which funds were transferred by using cricket betting Apps,” the police said.
Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana has commended the Koilkuntla Police for the successful operation.
