Six dead in an explosion at a fire cracker unit in Anakapalli

As many as six persons were reportedly killed and seven persons injured in an explosion that occurred in a fire cracker unit at Kailasapatnam in Kotlavuratla mandal here in Anakapalli district, on Sunday (April 13).

As per the initial reports from the Anakapalli district police, the blast occurred at around 12.45 p.m.

All the bodies were found shattered at the blast site. It is still unclear how many people were working at the location at the time of the explosion, but in the initial enquiry by the district administration, it was found that since it was a Sunday, there were about 15 workers in the firecracker unit.

The firecracker unit is reportedly located about two kilometres from the outskirts of the village. Locals rushed to the scene upon hearing the blast and began rescuing the injured.

The local police along with emergency services, fire tenders rushed to the spot. The firemen have been involved in dousing the fire. The injured persons were shifted and admitted in a private hospital.

Minister for Home V. Anitha is on her way to the accident spot. She will also visit the hospital, where the victims were admitted. District Collector Vijaya Krishnan has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
