
A gang of six drug peddlers were arrested by Ranipet district police for possession of 210 kg of ganja from Odisha and seized three vehicles.

A gang of six drug peddlers was arrested by Ranipet district police for possession of 210 kg of ganja. They also seized three vehicles that were used in smuggling the ganja. The police have identified the arrested persons as N. Kumaresan, 28, from Ranipet, and S. Debabrata Das, 19; M. Gourab Krepitika, 24; K. Reli Majhi, 27; B. Gupta Charansahu, 28, and G. Sudhir Alberia, 19, from Odisha.
Initial inquiry revealed that based on orders of Asra Garg, IGP (North Zone), three special teams were formed, which were monitored by Ranipet SP Vivekanand Shukla, as part of a crackdown on drug trafficking. Following an alert, special police teams were involved in surprise vehicle checks in the district when they stopped three vehicles near Arcot town.
No valid documents
The police said occupants in the vehicles gave contradictory answers on their purpose of travel. They also failed to provide valid documents of the vehicles. Subsequently, police checked the vehicles and found ganja. Mr. Shukla said that strict action would be taken against those smuggling drugs into the State.
They also found out that the seized ganja was meant to be sold in retail among workers in the industrial sites in the region and Puducherry.
