Over a month since speed restrictions were imposed on the Kochi metro’s Kaloor-JLN stadium corridor following detection of wear and tear on a ‘pedestal bearing’ located between the viaduct and the pillar along the corridor, efforts are under way to lift the speed curbs on or before March 17, sources in Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) said.

Speed restrictions were imposed in February following a routine inspection. Specialised materials have now been procured, and an external agency has been engaged to carry out repair work. The repair work has already commenced at the site and is scheduled for completion on or before March 17. Upon completion, trains will operate at normal speed through the corridor.

The maintenance process is progressing as scheduled while ensuring the structural integrity and operational efficiency of the metro network. Although the work was slated to be completed in 10 days, it took longer due to, among other reasons, delay in procuring materials, the sources added.
