Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa assured the Assembly on Tuesday (March 18, 2025) that steps were afoot towards establishing airports in Hosur and Rameswaram. He was responding to concerns raised by AIADMK legislator Sellur K. Raju in the House.

The Minister said five locations were initially identified and were sent to the Centre that short-listed two of them. Underlining the steps being taken by the DMK government in this regard, Mr. Rajaa said that the works would be completed soon.

During the debate on the Budget for 2025-26 in the House, Mr. Rajaa and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami traded charges on land acquisition process needed for the airport expansion projects in Madurai and Coimbatore.

When Mr. Palaniswami said the erstwhile AIADMK government took steps towards land acquisiton for the airport expansion project in Coimbatore, Mr. Rajaa said that the steps undertook by the previous regime was not complete. He further said that the DMK government was actively working on new airports and expansion projects.
