The suspension of 18 MLAs of the opposition BJP from the Karnataka Assembly has not just affected execution of their responsibilities, but has also come in the way of functioning of various legislature committees that play a crucial role in resolving the grievances of people, according to former Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP MLA S. Suresh Kumar.

Mr. Suresh Kumar, in a social media post, expressed concern that the functioning of such legislature committees, including discussion with members and efforts to find solutions with officials with respect to problems of the general public, had been affected due to suspension of the MLAs, and the subsequent decision taken by the BJP asking all its MLAs not to participate in the meetings of such committees.

Citing an example, Mr. Suresh Kumar said the petitions committee of which he is a member had been successful in finding solutions to problems affecting people in different areas that had been brought to its notice. However, the Speaker’s stern stand of suspending the MLAs and the BJP’s decision to stay away from the meetings of these committees till the suspension is revoked had come in the way of BJP members attending the meetings, he pointed out.

He made a fresh appeal to Speaker U. T. Khader to withdraw the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs so that the legislature committees could function effectively.
