The Tamil Nadu government has granted minority status to 153 educational institutions in the State. This is in addition to the existing 159 institutions that have already been conferred minority status certificates.
According to a press release, the Empowered Committee to scrutinise applications for conferment of minority status on educational institutions, headed by Chief Secretary held its seventh meeting recently. The committee took up 160 applications seeking minority status. After scrutiny, 153 institutions have been granted minority educational institution status.
Totally, the Department of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare has conferred minority status to 312 educational institutions in the State, including 246 institutions conferred with permanent minority status certificates, the press release added.
