
Schools in panchayat unions would be repaired and renovated at a cost of ₹60 crore, Minister for Rural Development I. Periyasamy said on Wednesday.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced measures to develop basic amenities and infrastructure for the benefit of farmers and students in rural areas. Minister for Rural Development I. Periyasamy made the announcements in the Assembly.
Bridges would be constructed at a cost of ₹800 crore to connect remote villages with schools, colleges, and hospitals in all weather conditions, he said. Measures would be taken to improve the water and natural resources at a cost of ₹500 crore.
Streets and lanes would be developed with cement concrete and paver blocks at a cost of ₹350 crore. To ensure an uninterrupted supply of 55 litres of water to every person a day, about 1,200 overhead tanks would be built at a cost of ₹300 crore, the Minister said.
Schools in panchayat unions would be repaired and renovated at a cost of ₹60 crore. Perimeter walls would be constructed at 500 government schools at a cost of ₹50 crore. Child-friendly school infrastructure would be created at a cost of ₹182 crore.
Mud roads connecting remote villages would be developed at a cost of ₹150 crore to help farmers transport their produce to markets. New buildings would be constructed for 500 village panchayat offices at a cost of ₹157 crore. A total of 500 anganwadi centres would get new buildings at a cost of ₹87 crore. About 500 part-time ration shops would get new buildings at a cost of ₹61 crore.
About 1,500 Community Health Centres would be established near schools, libraries, anganwadis, and government buildings at a cost of ₹31.50 crore. The fund allocation for Namakku Naame Thittam would be increased from ₹100 crore to ₹150 crore during 2025-26.
Building Maintenance Policy
A Building Maintenance Policy would be formulated to maintain schools, the offices of village panchayats and panchayat unions, overhead tanks, buildings housing self-help groups, community centres, libraries, and bus termini. Funds to the tune of ₹100 crore would be sanctioned for this purpose every year from 2025-26.
Along with the devolution fund recommended by the State Finance Commission, a special grant of ₹69 crore would be sanctioned as a subsidy for developing drinking water, healthcare, and road infrastructure in 690 village panchayats located near urban areas.
In addition to the devolution fund recommended by the State Finance Commission, a special grant of ₹30 crore would be sanctioned as a subsidy for developing drinking water, healthcare, and road infrastructure in 278 village panchayats in hilly areas.
As a reward for the implementation of the Forests Rights Act, 2006, in rural areas, a special grant of ₹10 crore would be sanctioned as subsidy, in addition to the fund allocation recommended by the State Finance Commission. This fund would be utilised for aiding the livelihood of people and developing amenities. A sum of ₹5 crore would be granted to the Tamil Nadu Cleanliness Workers’ Welfare Board for the benefit of these workers in rural areas.
