A teenager, who was taken into custody in connection with the missing case of a minor girl, was found hanging in the toilet of the Kalpetta police station in Wayanad, Kerala, on Tuesday (April 1) morning. The deceased has been identified as Gokul (18) of Ambalavayal, who was also reported missing a few days ago.

Taposh Basumatary, District Police Chief, Wayanad, told reporters that Gokul, along with a girl who was reported missing on April 27, were traced to Kozhikode on Monday. The police took them into custody after medical examination and brought them to Kalpetta.

“It was quite late and hence they could not be produced before a magistrate. The girl was moved to a shelter home while the man was held at the police station”, he said.

Gokul allegedly asked the policemen at the station permission to use the toilet around 7.45 am on Tuesday, which was granted. The policemen broke open the toilet door 15 minutes later as he did not come out and found him hanging using his shirt. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Mr. Basumatary said the families of both the boy and the girl were informed that they were traced on Monday evening.

He said the boy was not charged of any crime and that the police did not get time to question him.

An inquiry would be held on whether there had been any lapse from the part of the policemen at the station, he added.
