The celestial wedding ‘Sita Rama Kalyanam’ was performed at the TTD’s Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple in Tirupati on Monday evening. Thousands of devotees thronged to witness the event.

Following the annual Brahmotsavams that concluded recently, it is an ancient practice at this temple to perform three major events such as ‘Sri Rama Navami’ (birthday), ‘Sita Rama Kalyanam’ (wedding) and ‘Sri Rama Pattabhishekam’ (coronation ceremony) in quick succession.

The ‘Muthyala Thalambralu’ (pearls) were taken in a grand procession on elephant back from the TTD’s administrative building to the temple. After performing the special ‘puja’ at the treasury section, the pearls were taken in a procession that passed through Theertha Katta street, Gandhi Road, Govindaraja Swamy South Mada street and Chinna Bazar, before reaching the temple. They were formally handed over to the temple’s chief priest Anandakumar Deekshitulu, to be used in the wedding event.
