Three members of a family, including a four-year-old girl, died of asphyxiation after a fire broke out at Pasha Colony in Neknampur, Narsingi, on Friday evening.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the electric meter box on the ground floor of the G+2 building, which also houses a convenience store.
Officials from the Fire Department confirmed that the victims, identified as Sijira Khatoon, 4, Jameela Khatoon, 65, and Sahana Khatoon, 30, succumbed while undergoing treatment.
District Fire Officer (DFO) of Ranga Reddy, Shaik Khaja Karimulla, stated that 12 residents were rescued from the building. He said that the survivors conducted a headcount and promptly alerted officials about the missing family members. Firefighters used a ladder to break into their first-floor flat, where they were found unconscious. The three were carried out and rushed to Golconda Area Hospital but could not be saved. “The family was running ‘Osman Kirana Store’ on the ground floor and were residing on the first floor,” said the DFO.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit in the electric meter box sparked the fire, which then spread and gutted the two CNG cars parked in the lot. Officials said further investigation would confirm the exact cause.
The fire control department reported that three fire tenders were deployed following a distress call at 5.36 p.m. The first response team was dispatched from Langar Houz, with two more vehicles, including a rescue unit, arriving within minutes. The bodies of three were shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination.
