Three devotees, including two women, lost their lives and several others were injured in a stampede which took place around chariots in Puri in the wee hours of Sunday (June 29, 2025).

The incident took place around 4 a.m. on Sunday when devotees had been waiting to have Darshan of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhdra on chariots. In rush to have glimpse of deities, one devotee fell down which triggered the stampede.

“So far we have received information about three deaths and condition of six injured persons are stated to be stable,” said Puri district collector Siddharth Shankar Swain on Sunday.
