Two persons arrested for burglary near Walajah

Two persons were arrested for burglary at a farmer’s house at Bagaveli village near Walajah town in Ranipet on Sunday.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as S. Sanjay (22) and R. Suriya (20) of Madipakkam in Chennai. Bagaveli village was native village for the duo, who regularly visited their relatives and family friends in the village.

Initial inquiries revealed that the victim N. Santhosh Kumar (48) was living with his family in the village for many years. Along with his family members, Kumar cultivates paddy in his three acre farmland near his house.

On March 20, along with his wife, Kumar went to his agricultural land for farm work with his two children who had gone to school. When the couple returned home for lunch, they noticed the front door of the house was damaged. Valuables in cupboards were missing. They alerted Kaveripakkam police, who rushed to the spot with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken.

Ranipet Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivekananda Shukla formed special teams. During a surprise vehicle check near Walajah toll gate on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44), a police team stopped the duo, who were on a two-wheeler. The duo gave contradictory answers and failed to produce valid documents for the two-wheeler.

Police interrogated the duo, who admitted to the theft. Police recovered 12.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and cash from them. The stolen items went missing from the house. A case was registered. The duo lodged at sub-jail in Walajah. A probe is underway.
