Two police officials with the Ernakulam Rural Police were placed under suspension on Sunday, pending an inquiry.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) named Saleem, attached to the District Special Branch, was suspended after it was found that he had misused a card issued for availing services at the Police Canteen, where materials can be purchased at reduced rates. He allegedly handed over the card to a person believed to be associated with the SDPI.

In a separate incident, a senior civil police officer attached to the Perumbavoor ASP office was suspended on the charge of unauthorised use of his superior officer’s official email account. The officer, identified as Sharnas, reportedly used the email ID to send an email seeking the restoration of a frozen bank account.
