The Hindu Future India Club and KP’s 21st Century IAS Academy’s ‘Unlock Your Future’ career guidance seminar took place at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology at Abids on Saturday (March 29).
Director of the IAS academy Bhavani Shankar explained to the students the scheme of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
He emphasised the Commission’s importance and how it encourages women candidates to apply. Advising students to build a strong foundation by thoroughly understanding concepts at school, he said determination and consistency are required to excel in competitive exams.
The CSE has multiple stages, with only a small percentage of the nearly 10 lakh applicants advancing to the mains and even fewer to the interview. The mains examination consists of seven papers, each carrying 250 marks, and only the top candidates are included in the merit list. The examination includes 23 types of services and is designed to test fundamental knowledge across various disciplines, he explained.
Mr. Shankar reminded students about the importance of thorough preparation and strategic choice of optional subjects as key to success in the examination.
The college’s principal Prabhu G. Benakop reiterated that opportunities are plentiful for students who are determined to crack competitive examinations.
At the seminar, the organisers presented three sets of The Hindu’s Editorial books to the college.
