Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) called for the immediate intervention of the State government to take concerted measures ensuring that mounds of paddy stocked in direct purchase centres (DPCs) are not drenched by the rain.

In a statement, Mr. Vasan drew the attention of the State government to conditions prevailing in several DPCs functioning in the Cauvery delta districts, where thousands of bags of paddy procured from farmers were kept in the open and submerged in rainwater during the recent downpour. He said the non-availability of adequate area to stock the grains and lack of tarpaulins to cover the paddy bags had led to damages to the harvested grains.

He pointed out that the problem of paddy stocks being drenched in the rain had become a recurring one, and urged the State government to take concrete measures to prevent damages to grains in DPCs.
