The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) criticised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami’s remarks on the DMK alliance.

Responding to a question about Mr. Palaniswami’s remark that allies of the DMK were “subservient” to their political master and were unable to act independently, VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan said the AIADMK leader was speaking out of frustration.

Mr. Palaniswami’s long wait was much like ‘Ilavu Katha Kili’ (the parrot that waited in vain), as his expectation of some alliance partners breaking away from the DMK-led alliance to join the AIADMK did not materialise, Mr. Thirumavalavan alleged.

In a post on X, CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam said that Mr. Palaniswami’s remarks that parties in alliance with the DMK would fade away reflected his frustration, as no party was coming forward to form an alliance with the AIADMK.

To counter the BJP’s neo-fascist tendencies, which is a threat to India and Tamil Nadu, parties including the CPI(M) has created a broadbased unity, which is model for the entire nation, he said.

Mr. Shanmugam pointed out that the recently concluded CPI(M) All India Congress in Madurai has created a new energy for leftist policies, which is against the BJP and its pro-corporate policies.

“It is surprising that Mr. Palaniswami did not notice it. Is he aware about AIADMK’s current situation of being reduced to a puppet dancing to the tunes of Amit Shah, which has been a cause of concern for the party cadres,” he asked.
