West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday left for the United Kingdom. Ms. Banerjee’s flight was delayed by 12 hours because of a power outage at London’s Heathrow Airport and the Chief Minister said that her visit will be very hectic.
“We are going for four or five days. But I will be in touch with the officials during my absence,” Ms. Banerjee said before boarding the flight on Saturday evening.
Ms. Banerjee is scheduled to attend a function at the Indian High Commission in London on Monday, followed by a meeting with business leaders during the next few days of her visit. On Thursday, she will deliver a speech at the Kellogg College at Oxford University on the topic “Social Development: Empowerment of Women and Children”.
She will return to the West Bengal on March 28.
Governor C. V Ananda Bose said, “It is a matter of pride that the CM [who hails] from the land of Rabindranath Tagore has been invited there.” The Governor also expressed his personal joy from the recognition given to the State. “If anything good happens to Bengal, it makes us happy. Also we are proud that the CM is going to Oxford,” he added.
