With a profit of ₹415 crore, KSDL sees record production

State-run Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd. (KSDL), which has diversified its portfolio by launching a variety of soap and perfume products, recorded a net profit of ₹415 crore in 2024-25 and registered a growth of 14%. The 109-year-old PSU had a targeted turnover of ₹1,589 crore, but achieved business of ₹1,785.99 crore in 2024-25.

Over six years

The KSDL, with its flagship brand Mysore Sandal Soap, increased its profit close to four times during the last six years — from ₹109.02 crore in 2018-19 to ₹415 crore in 2024-25, said the company. The company paid a dividend of ₹108.62 crore to the government in December 2024.

Minister for Large Industries M.B. Patil and KSDL chairman Appaji C.S. Nadagouda, MLA, cleared proposals on launching multiple products during the last one year, said officials. The KSDL’s annual production of all quantities during 2024-25 was recorded at 43,144.29 tonnes as against 37,916 tonnes in 2023-24, marking a growth of 13.78%.

During 2024-25, the toilet soap division recorded a production of 36,268.5 tonnes, while the detergent plant production stood at 5,788.02 tonnes. Cosmetic plant’s production was 1,087.678 tonnes, according to KSDL managing director Prashanth P.K.M.

A few months ago, the KSDL opened two outlets at the KSRTC bus terminal at Majestic in Bengaluru. Currently, the company has its outlets in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Chitradurga, and Belagavi and they are managed by the KSDL Society. It plans to set up more stalls in all district headquarters. The KSDL has planned to set up outlets at railway stations under the ‘One Station, One Product’ initiative of the Indian Railways. The company has planned to appoint new distributors across India, especially in north India.

Soap Mela

The KSDL has been organising Soap Mela in the district headquarters to boost its sales and create awareness among the public on the availability of its products. It has held exhibitions in Tumakuru and Davangere. Customers are provided a 10% discount on the prices of products at the exhibition.
