Belagavi police are investigating the claim of a woman that she was partially stripped and assaulted over a land dispute in Harlapur village in Belagavi district of Karnataka on March 17.

The woman complained to the police that she was beaten up by some persons, including her relatives, after being stripped partially. She claimed that some outsiders tried to harvest the crop on her land.

She told reporters that the police did not register a case despite going to the police station immediately after the alleged incident.

She produced some videos showing some policeman looking on while the crop was being harvested.

Police visited the village. They say that the woman’s claims are not fully true. They claim that the allegations of being stripped and assaulted are far from the truth. They claimed that the woman had tried to disrupt the harvesting of the crop of her relatives, and it was not the other way round. They claim that the is a long-pending dispute over the ownership of the land and the farm produce.

Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled said, “The lady stakes claim on 4 acres 15 gunta of land of her sister-in-law (the RTC is in the name of her sister-in-law). Police officers had registered two FIRs pertaining to this dispute in June and December 2024. The crop was being grown by her sister-in-law, but this lady went to the field and tried to obstruct harvesting. As can be seen in the videos, police were present at the spot, and they have seen something else other than what the lady is claiming.”
