The third season of Yellowjackets came full circle with the past timeline finally showing the hunt for Pit Girl — and a potential rescue attempt.
Warning: This story contains spoilers about the season 3 finale of Yellowjackets.
During the finale, which aired on Friday, April 11, the girls in the wilderness remained divided as Shauna’s (Melanie Lynskey) power trip continued to put her at odds with Natalie (Sophie Thatcher). It all built up to another hunt but this one was familiar because it was the opening scene from the pilot.
Turns out Mari (Alexa Barajas) was Pit Girl, and this time viewers got the full picture as she ran for her life — only to accidentally fall into the trap Travis (Kevin Alves) created for Lottie (Courtney Eaton). While Shauna was focused on the hunt, Natalie found an opening to take the satellite radio left over from Hannah’s team (Ashley Sutton) to a high enough mountain where she appeared to make contact with the outside world.
Meanwhile in the present timeline, Tai (Tawny Cypress) had to bury Van (Lauren Ambrose) before taking a quick break to eat her heart. Shauna’s (Melanie Lynskey) showdown with Melissa (Hilary Swank) caused Tai to team up with Misty (Christina Ricci) to plan a way to take her down. The mystery of Lottie’s death, meanwhile, turned out to be an accident at the hands of Shauna’s daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins).
Friday’s episode wrapped up a deadly season with three major deaths. While certain fans weren’t thrilled with the shift, the creators have remained committed to their vision.
“We always try to leave room for better ideas that may come. We pitched this show seven years ago. We have an endpoint in mind,” creator Ashley Lyle shared earlier this month at a panel. “We know where we’re heading, but we have an absolute brilliant group of writers that we’re working [with]. We have the writers room. We have our incredible collaborators in our actors and so we know where we want to go, but we want to leave some room for how we get there.”

Adult and Teenage Shauna

In the past, Shauna was still in charge and losing followers quickly. She used Akilah’s (Nia Sondaya) animals dying in the winter as a way to push for another hunt. While Tai and Van tried to get Hannah to draw the deadly card, Shauna caught wind of their plan and stepped in so Mari would end up the victim.
Shauna hunted Mari literally to death but in the light of day realized how many people were against her. There was also that reveal that Hannah pretended to be Natalie so Natalie could escape and call for her help.
The present version of Shauna wasn’t any better off. After alienating everyone, Shauna returned home to see Jeff (Warren Kole) and Callie gone. She ended the season writing in her journal about how much she thrived in the role of Antler Queen.
Adult and Teenage Taissa

Following Van’s death, adult Tai mourned the love of her life. There was some light cannibalism when Tai buried Van’s body in the middle of nowhere but then it was business as usual. The episode ended with Tai and Misty making plans to take Shauna down as Walter (Elijah Wood) watched on from a distance.
Teen Tai, meanwhile, attempted to alter the results of the card draw so Hannah would be hunted down instead of her or Van. It didn’t work but it made Tai and the others more aware of the danger Shauna was posing to the camp.
Adult and Teenage Misty

In the past and present, Misty observed as events unfolded in front of her. The teenage Misty helped orchestrate Natalie’s escape to get them rescued while adult Misty waited for Tai to come to her about her Shauna concerns. Misty also deducted that Callie was the one responsible for Lottie’s death, which is when she suggested Jeff take her away.
Teenage Natalie

After discovering that Misty prevented their initial chance at being found, Natalie kept it quiet. She remained largely in the background until the hunt started, which was when Natalie — with some unexpected help from Hannah — escaped with the radio. The last scene was Natalie trying to make contact with the outside world and subsequently getting a response.
Adult and Teenage Lottie

The present timeline revealed that Callie visited Lottie the day she died. After an emotional conversation about how Callie thought her mom didn’t love her, Lottie tried to claim Callie was It giving them the child they lost in the wilderness.
Callie freaked out and pushed Lottie, which killed her. Jeff decided to take action and remove Callie from their home with Shauna to protect her daughter from the chaos.
Meanwhile in the past, Lottie continued to give herself over to the unseen It.
Teenage Van

Van teamed up with Tai to work the hunt to their benefit. While Van took part in tracking down Mari — and eating her — she was one of the people no longer on Shauna’s side.
